Open Air CircusThe following announcement was submitted to InsideMedford.com by organizers of the Open Air Circus in Somerville.

Touring Circus Performance Benefits Local Youth

The renowned Extraterrestrial Circus Experiment will perform their unique and astonishing show, “People,” for one night only on Friday, July 10 at 7 pm. The show, at the Armory Center for the Arts, 191 Highland Avenue, Somerville, will benefit the OPENAIR Circus.

Please consider coming in a green fashion (public transportation, walking, biking, skating, etc.). If you come by car, please remember to park in the lot behind the Armory to try to avoid street parking congestion.

One reviewer wrote that the ET Circus Experiment is: “nothing short of incredible, theatrical, magical, and surpassingly well executed. These are not simply jugglers, object manipulators, dancers, or actors; they are all of these things, plus musicians, special effects wizards, choreographers, and much more. Expect to be amazed and humbled by these truly great people who are performers in every sense of the word.” For a video please see www.myspace.com/circusexperiment.

Advance tickets to the hour long show are available online at www.openaircircus.org for $8/child (5-18 yr olds), $15/adult, $40/family (2 adults, 2 children). Tickets at the door are $12/child, $20/adult.  For more information call 617-947-1191 or email peter_jehlen@openaircircus.org.

The OPENAIR Circus is in its 24rd year of serving Somerville and surrounding communities. A non-profit, volunteer-run organization, the OPENAIR Circus Circus builds self-esteem, leadership skills and an appreciation for the arts among youth from Somerville and surrounding communities.  Many Medford residents are participating in the circus this year.

The ExtraTerrestrial Circus Experiment are artists in residence again this year, teaching many of the Circus’ classes, and graciously donating this benefit performance, taking a break from their busy east coast tour.

This year’s residency includes an intensive teen leadership program partially funded by the Somerville Health Alliance, the Somerville Arts Council, and the Edith Johnston Memorial Trust Fund of Circus Fans of America.
