Local Artists Show Work at Tufts Gallery

Brunelle paintingWork on Display at Tisch Gallery June 4-August 2

The Tufts University Art Gallery issued an open call to all professional artists living and/or with a studio in three of Tufts’ host communities (Grafton, Medford, and Somerville). Thirty-six artists were selected out of ninety submissions, and their work represents a variety of media, styles and themes. Among these artists are familiar names pursuing new directions and newcomers who submitted for the first time this year. Their art has been arranged in the gallery space to inspire dialogue and create opportunities for close examination and comparison.

This summer, Tufts will offer insight into each participating artist through a special cell-phone tour. Starting June 4, visitors can dial 1-617-449-7520, listen to a brief introduction, and self-select the stops to which they want to listen. Visitors will hear, often in the artist’s own voice, about the artist’s inspirations, intentions, and techniques.

The Annual Juried Summer Exhibition continues to be a valued showcase in the Tufts University Art Gallery’s exhibition schedule and is an important barometer of the vitality of the arts in Tufts University’s host communities. Each year, the University welcomes the opportunity to honor the local artists who comprise one of our most significant constituencies. In six years, the gallery has received more than 350 submissions and proudly exhibited the work of over 90 artists (about a dozen of whom have exhibited with Tufts more than once).
