2nd Straight Win Leads to 2nd Straight Tourney Appearance

The Medford varsity baseball team punched their ticket for post-season play with a 5-4 victory over Malden at Playstead Park on Monday.

The team will compete in the state tournament for the second year in a row. They are 11-6 overall and 7-4 in the Greater Boston League.

There are four games left in the season. The Mustangs take head to Cambridge on Wednesday and then take part in a Memorial Day tournament with Arlington, Malden Catholic, and Arlington Catholic.

Junior Al Krasco pitched six full innings against Malden on Monday and sophomore Danny Gilchrist took over on the mound in the seventh to seal the deal for Medford.

The Mustangs pulled out their third straight win on Tuesday against Winchester, with Gilchrist pitching a complete game coming away with his fifth win of the season.

In the Mustangs’ 7-1 victory over Boston English on Friday, junior Ian Fitzgerald pitched a complete game for the victory. Greg Wilson, Chris Salvati, Kyle Heath, and Gilchrist all led in the offensive attack.

Junior Mike Sullivan will start out on the mound for the ‘Stangs on Wednesday.   Sullivan last pitched against Somerville and helped bring Medford to a 4-2 victory.

Head Coach Nick Tucci is very pleased with his team’s performance and is focused on finishing the season strong and preparing the Mustangs for post-season play.
