Honors Students Use Web to Help Peers with Homework

New Website Connects Students with Tutors

Starting this week, students struggling with their homework can get help online from their peers.

Medford High School’s National Honors Society, under the guidance of math teacher Shereen Escovitz, launched www.mhstutor.com to provide fast- and discreet- homework help to students. Escovitz and Honors Society senior Justing Goguen created the website after site council members discussed the idea.

Students must register with Escovitz to receive a user name and password to log into the website. National Honors Society members will be available to assist students with homework in any subject area Monday through Thursday from 7PM to 9PM. The service is free and anonymous, and the only teacher on the website will be Escovitz, who will be monitoring the site.

“Everything is anonymous so students won’t feel embarassed about asking for help,” said Escovitz.

The site was created using free and open source software, including Linux, PostgreSQL, and Django.
