Major Irish rock band U2 is holding a free concert for fans on Wednesday at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.

The show is at 9PM and thousands are expected to throng Davis Square for a glimpse of the band.

The Somerville Journal is following the action via Twitter.

The only way to get tickets was to win them from local radio stations Mix 98.5, WFNX, WZLX, WBCN, and WBOS.  About 800 very lucky people have tickets and will also get to take part in a question and answer session with the band.

The show will be broadcast live on WBCN, 104.1 FM.

The band released summer tour dates on their website on Monday morning to promote their new album, No Line on the Horizon.  The tour kicks off June 30 in Spain and comes to Gillette Stadium on September 20.
