Sen. Jehlen Speaks Up for Elder Home Care

State Senator Pat JehlenState Senator Patricia Jehlen (D-Somerville, Medford) addressed over 200 advocates for community-based elder care at the State House’s Nurses Hall Feb. 26. According to information released by Sen. Jehlen’s office, the event highlighted the lengthy waiting list for home care services and the urgent need to fully fund and implement the landmark Equal Choice legislation passed in 2006. Sen. Jehlen, co-chair of the Elder Affairs Committee told the group that waiting lists for home care and protective services put seniors at risk of injury, hospitalization, and nursing home admission, which all cost more than preventive care. Sen Jehlen also cautioned that, without new revenue, dangerous cuts to basic human services are very likely to continue.
