Medford Tops Dracut in Final Home Game

Mustangs Nab Win in Overtime

Proving that size doesn’t always matter, the notably shorter Medford Mustang Girls Varsity Basketball team put away Dracut, 61-54, in an exciting overtime win on Thursday in their final home game.

The Mustangs came alive in the second half of the game after trailing by one point at the half.  They scored an impressive nine 3-pointers throughout the game, four of them delivered by Nicole Lopilato (17 points) and four from Casey Moran (12 points).  Jill Derosas, Lauren Bandoian, and Tania Holmes also were key contributors in the win, Head Coach Brian Sacco told the Medford Daily Mercury.

Senior Bianca Eugene (9 points) was also honored before the game.

The Mustangs hit the road and take on Dracut in their final game of the season on Saturday afternoon.  Even if the Mustangs win, they will fall just shy of qualifying for the state tournament.
