Mustang Cheerleaders Win League, Qualify for States

MHS CheerleadersThe Medford High School varsity cheerleading squad continued on with their tradition of success with a Greater Boston League victory and state competition qualification.

The GBL win and a win at the Beverly Invitational qualified the girls to compete this past weekend in the North Regional Competition, in which they placed 4th in Division 2. The team would have snagged third place if it weren’t for an unfortunate four-point penalty for an errant bow that came out of a girl’s hair and was stepped on during the competition.

The team’s final score, 170.5 , was well over the 160 points needed to qualify for the state competition, which is this coming Sunday.

Last year the team capped off undefeated fall and winter seasons with a national title, their third in just six years and their fourth overall. The team is led this year by captains Lisa Cardone and Courtney Galvin and seniors Anne Raimo and Christina Cardone.
