Mayor to be Honored with Pope John Award

Mayor Michael McGlynnCatholic School Recognizes Local Mayors with First Annual Pinnacle Award

Mayor Michael McGlynn is one of six individuals who will receive Pope John XXIII High School’s first annual Pinnacle Award at a special gala fundraiser in December.

McGlynn is one of five mayors receiving the award and will be recognized along with Mayor Thomas G. Ambrosino of Revere, Jay Ash, City Manager of Chelsea, Mayor Carlo DeMaria, Jr., of Everett, and Mayor Richard C. Howard, of Malden. Pope John staff member, Margaret “Peggy” Reavy, C.S.J. is also being honored with the award.

According to information provided by the school, the Pinnacle Awards recognizes extraordinary people who have made outstanding contributions to increase educational and career opportunities for all children in the community.

Mayor McGlynn will receive the award at a gala benefit and fundraiser on Thursday, December 4, at 6PM at Montvale Plaza in Stoneham. Boston Globe photographer and author Bill Brett will deliver the keynote address. In addition to a dinner and silent auction, there will be special presentations featuring noted community politicians, and Pope John XXIII High School students and staff.

The Co-chairs of the evening are Elizabeth Jones, President and CEO of Everett Co-operative Bank and Dennis Cataldo, Vice President, Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc. “Dangerous” Dana Rosenblatt, former IBO Middleweight Champion Boxer, is Honorary Chair of the event.

The event benefits the school’s Funds for Excellence, a scholarship fundraising initiative. According to school officials, financial need has increased among its students in recent years and the school wants to increase its scholarships to students in need and to be able to accept all qualified students.

In addition to the award from Pope John, Mayor McGlynn has been recognized by Boston Jaycees, The U.S. Conference of Mayors, the American Legion, the Greater Lynn Mental Health & Retardation Center, Temple Shalom, Pipe fitters, Local 537, the Painters, Local #35, the Massachusetts Council of Human Service Providers and the Greater Boston Labor Council. Mayor McGlynn was also inducted into the Arlington Catholic High School Hall of Fame.
