Farmers’ Market Opens Thursday

Green beans from Busa Farms at last year’s Farmers’ Market– Susan Altman, 2007 Market Manager

The Medford Square Market opens Thursday, June 19. We’ll be on River Street in Medford Square (same spot as last year) every Thursday 1PM-7PM into October.

The Medford Square Market has teamed up with Massachusetts vendors to provide you with the freshest produce, breads, herbs, cheeses, pastries, prepared foods, and more! Here are some of our vendors:

Busa Farm, Lexington: Fresh produce, most of which is grown without pesticides. Plus in-season local fruit and honey.

La Bella’s Fine Foods, Medford: Italian specialties, grilled ready-to-eat foods

When Pigs Fly Breads, Somerville: Heavenly breads

Cheeses, locally made by Crystal Brooke Farms and The Shy Brothers

Oliver’s Deli, Medford: Middle-eastern homemade prepared foods and sandwiches

Panorma Bakery, Newton: Pastries and other sweet things

We will also be featuring a different local artist every week. These artists and crafters are local painters, photographers, jewelers, and crafters, including:

Father of Pearl Designs
Karol Peralta
MittenMitten
and members of the Medford Arts Council (MACI)

Why Should You Support the Medford Square Market?

The Medford Square Market has huge benefits for all of us.

It brings extremely fresh produce and other local products to OUR community. It gives you a great way to interact with friends and neighbors. It provides foot traffic for businesses in the Square. And It helps to revitalize Medford Square.

How Can Residents Help the Market Thrive?

First and foremost, shop at the Market every Thursday! We will be open at 1 pm, so if you work in or near the Square you can come on your lunch hour. And we’re open until 7 pm, so you can also stop by on your way home and pick up some dinner items. Also, tell your neighbors about the Market and encourage them to support us.

Volunteer with us. We need people to put out sandwich boards on busy streets each Thursday, talk with local businesses about the Market, and deliver flyers about the Market to other homes near you.

How Can Businesses Support the Market?

Become a Market sponsor at whatever level of support works for you.

Help organize special Thursday evening incentives, to entice people to visit the Market and then spend the evening in Medford Square.

With your help, we can make the market a huge success!

Be a Market Hero–Become a Block Captain!

People keep telling us they “just found out about the Market.”

You can make sure that all of Medford knows about the Market this year. It’s easy:

1. We give you a colorful sandwich board (it’s not very heavy).

2. Thursday mornings, you put it out on one of Medford’s busy intersections.

3. Thursday evenings after 7 pm, you take the sign home and store it away
from the rain.

The market runs from June 19 to mid-October, and the signs need to be displayed every Thursday.

Here are some places where we need signs:

Winthrop Street and High Streeet, near the rotary

Along the length of Winthrop Street

Along the length of High Street

West Medford Square

Intersection of Harvard and Main Streets

Intersection of Lawrence Rd and Governors Ave

Intersection of Main and High Streets
