Medford Police Make Another Drug Arrest

Drug Arrest is Second in Less than Week

Medford Police have nabbed another suspect for allegedly dealing drugs, the second arrest in less than one week.

Police arrested Angel Ruiz, 19, of Roslindale, for allegedly dealing heroin in the Bow Street area.

Ruiz was arrested on Thursday after Medford Police Narcotics Detectives Sergeant David Montana and Detective Kevin Braxton, on surveillance, witnessed Ruiz allegedly dealing drugs in the middle of the afternoon.

“They [Sgt. Montana and Det. Braxton] observed the defendant in his actions consistent with that of one who would be distributing drugs. They observed him meet at least two different people in that area to make what we believe was a drug transaction,” said Medford Police Lieutenant Paul Covino in a written statement.

After obtaining enough evidence, the detectives stopped Ruiz in his car, conducted a search, and discovered money in various denominations. Ruiz then fled the scene on foot when he heard police request a drug-sniffing dog, but he wasn’t fast enough for police, who caught up to him a few blocks away. Sgt. Montana nabbed Ruiz at Medford and Hale Streets, handcuffing him and escorting him back to the car. Detective Dan Conway, Officer William Butts, Officer Barbara Decristafaro, Officer Robert Luongo, and Everett Police Sergeant Steve Panzini, with his dog, Niko, assisted at the scene.

Det. Braxton observed a baggie that contained several small bags of heroin which had been discarded by Ruiz into a storm drain on the side of the road. This was retrieved by Det. Conway with the assistance of Medford Highway Department.

Sgt. Montana and Det. Braxton, members of the Medford Police Drug Control Unit, were also involved in a drug raid that resulted in the arrest of Sean Walker last week.

Ruiz is being charged with possession of a Class A substance, heroin, and possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute.
