Rep. Markey: Oil Prices Hurting Local Families

US Representative Edward MarkeyUS Representative Edward Markey heads to Mobil Gas Station on Mystic Avenue Friday afternoon to talk about the impact high gas prices are having on local families.

The event, scheduled for 2PM, follows a hearing Rep. Markey held earlier this week in which the Congressman challenged oil companies to increase their investment in fuel alternatives to 10% of their profits.

“Many hard-working families and individuals here in Boston and across America are spending as much as 10 percent of their total income on gasoline. But the big oil companies won’t even commit the same 10 percent of their profits to delivering affordable, sustainable alternatives to oil. These companies are earning billions while fuel prices are wrecking havoc throughout our economy,” said Rep. Markey.

Markey, a Malden Democrat, chairs the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.
