Tufts University President Larry Bacow has invited community leaders from Medford, Somerville, Grafton, and Chinatown to join him at the university on Wednesday for the 6th annual Presidential Symposium for a discussion on strengthening the school’s ties in its host communities.

Bacow will host the event, which the school says is a chance for community partners to meet with Tufts students, faculty, and staff to brainstorm ways to increase the school’s partnerships in the community and to “build a greater understanding of the assets and priorities of Tufts’ partner communities.”

According to a university news release, about 100 people have been invited to participate, including community leaders, Tufts reps, and elected officials. Tufts spokeswoman Suzanne Miller said those expected to attend from Medford include School Superintendent Roy Belson, State Representative Paul Donato, State Representative Carl Sciortino, Medford High School Headmaster Paul Krueger, Susan Altman of the Medford Environmental Alliance, Shelley Gross of the Medford Family Resource Coalition, City of Medford Director of Human Diversity Diane McLeod, Joe Marucci of the West Medford Community Center, Sayida Rivers Farmer of Medford Health Matters, and Claudia Thompson of Springstep.

The event, entitled “Advancing Student Engagement in Communities,” is sponsored by the Office of the President, the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service, and the Office of Community Relations.
