Galebach Qualifies for New England Track Meet

Medford High School’s Philip Galebach proved that he not only dominates the cross-country course, but that he’s also a force to contend with on the track, as the junior took 6th place in the 2-mile race at yesterday’s state meet.

Galebach ran 9:40.92 at the MIAA All-State Indoor Track Meet, crossing the line at the same second as Westborough’s Jeff Bush and finishing fourteen seconds after winner Robert Gibson of Brookline. His finish qualified him for this Friday’s New England High School Championship Meet, which will also take place at Roxbury’s Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Galebach won his heat and his time placed him 6th overall.

In other Mustang sports news, the Girls Varsity Basketball team unfortunately had their state tournament advancement cut short by a nearly 30-point loss against Andover High School. The girls, who finished the regular season 10-10, fell to Andover in enemy turf Monday night, 61-32. Andover, seeded 3rd in the state tourney, was a tough foe for Medford, seeded 14th, to start off its tournament action.

The only other Mustang team alive in the post-season is the Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team. They head to Canton Wednesday night for the first round of the state tournament. The Mustangs head into Wednesday’s game seeded 12th, with a 10-6-3 record for the regular season.
