Medford MustangsTrack Athletes, Girls Basketball, Ice Hockey Head into Post-Season

After finishing 3-13 last year, the Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team, just a couple of seasons old, are entering into tournament play this week seeded 12th in their division.

The girls (10-6-3) will take a bye in the preliminary round but face 5th-ranked Canton on Wednesday at 7:30PM in Canton. The winner of that contest will face either Franklin, 4th, or Marblehead, 13th, in the quarter finals.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team, 10-10, are seeded 14th in their division and face 3rd-seed Andover Monday night at 7PM in Andover. The winner will advance to the quarter finals to face either Malden, 6th, or Waltham, 11th.

Junior Philip Galebach and senior Aiman Kilaouy will lace up their racing flats on Monday to compete in the MIAA All-State Meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, which was postponed from Friday due to the snow.

The Mustang indoor track teammates qualified for the state meet at the Division 1 Championships last Sunday, with Galebach taking 6th in the 2-mile race and Kilaouy coming in 7th in the 1,000 meter run.

Galebach’s time of 9:46.94 and Kilaouy’s 2:37.26 seeded both runners at 15th in their respective races.

Top performers at the meet Monday night will then compete at the New England High School Championship meet on Friday at the Reggie Lewis Center. Galebach and Kilaouy will have to place in the top six to qualify for that meet.
