Track Team Makes Good Showing at State Relays

The Medford High School Indoor Track Team held its own while competing against some of the top talent in the state this past weekend at Boston’s Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

At Sunday’s MSTCA Elite Meet, junior Philip Galebach earned 2nd place in the 2 mile run, crossing the line at the same second as Brookline senior Michael Bernstein, both at 9:31, with Bernstein edging Galebach by just over a tenth of a second. Other top performers include Aiman Kilaouy, whose 2:38.13 time in the 1,000 meter race earned him 15th place. Kilaouy then ran in the 4 x 200 meter relay race with Juan Lopez, Daniel Gunn, and Stephen Aghiarian, which earned 5th place with a time of 1:37.29.

The girls’ 4 x 800 meter relay team of Meghan Woods, Katherine Picarde, McKenzie Flynn, and Lauren O’Connor earned 8th place with a time of 10:42.36, while the girls’ 4 x 200 meter relay team of Shamone Allien, Jasmyn Hawkins, Danielle Joseph, and Keshanna Delsignore nabbed 10th place after running 1:58.22.

At Saturday’s Coaches’ Invitational, Gunn earned 44th place out of 80 competitors in the 300 meter dash with a time of 38.72, while John Beckshaw’s 10:05.42 in the 2 mile earned him 11th place out of 47 competitors.

In other Mustang sports news, the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team beat Cambridge on Friday, 43-40, and the Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team fell to Peabody on Saturday, 5-1.
