Democratic voters in West Medford will have another choice to make during Tuesday’s primary election- they will be voting for the best Democratic state representative candidate in a field of three candidates.

Two of the candidates, Sean Garballey and Jeff Thielman, share similar political philosophies and have unique resumes that make them exceptionally prepared to take on the challenges of a state representative. West Medford would be well-represented and well-served by either of those men. However, when it comes to a candidate that will be a true and compassionate public servant, someone who will always keep in mind the interests of his constituents in Arlington and West Medford, someone with the energy and enthusiasm for the often times un-glamorous demands of a state representative, that candidate is Sean Garballey.

Garballey, who has grown up with his adoptive parents and twin brother on the Arlington/Medford line, is just 22-years-old and has already served as an Arlington Town Meeting member for 5 years and a School Committee member for 3 years. His experience at a such a young age shows his aptitude for connecting public policy with his everyday constituents of Arlington.

His intelligence and poise belie his age, and he has earned the endorsement and respect of many organizations and individuals, including the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, and both firefighters and police in Arlington and Medford, among others. Garballey also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Arlington School Committee, demonstrating that he can earn the respect of his older colleagues.

There are several qualified candidates in this race, including John Worden, the former Arlington Town Moderator who the winner of the Democratic primary will face in a special election on March 4. However, open state representative seats don’t come along very often- current State Senator Jim Marzilli was in this seat for nearly two decades- and it is Sean Garballey that deserves a chance to bring his outstanding leadership skills, passion for public service, and exceptional work ethic to Beacon Hill for the benefit of Arlington and Medford.
