The Green Line Extension Project Advisory Group, charged with providing local feedback on key issues such as station location and finalizing the best route, will hold their first public meeting of the new year on January 9.

The $600 million Green Line extension to Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford is expected to be completed by 2014. The project is currently in an 18-month phase that will include applying for federal funds, creating environmental impact reports, and determining the final route and train station locations.

The public meeting will be held in the Community Room at the Visiting Nurses Association at 259 Lowell Street in Somerville from 4PM-6PM. Items up for discussion include potential station locations, the federal funding process, and the next steps for the project.

The advisory group, composed of Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford residents, holds meetings each month with state and local officials. All meetings are open to the public. Medford’s representatives to the group are City Councilor Frederick Dello Russo, Jr., William Wood, Ken Krause, and Carol Sharpton.

Krause said he expects the meeting to be very informative, particularly the discussion about neighborhood workshops. The workshops, planned for later this month, are another way Medford residents can get involved in the planning process for the Green Line.
