Medford Vocational Technical High School students have had a busy year, from sprucing up a Zamboni for state skating rinks to creating the oversized candle light displays that adorn light poles throughout Medford Square.

According to Automotive Collision Tech Instructor Joe Kinch, his students will be working on another Zamboni coming in for repairs and refinishing next week and are also sprucing up a dented, rusted 10-passenger van that was donated to the school for student field trips.

It’s a win-win situation, as the students get to practice their handiwork and the state and city, respectively, save thousands of dollars.

The next big project is getting the Medford Police D.A.R.E. corvette up and running. Kinch said the Automotive Department is repairing the vehicle and then the Collision Tech students will turn it into a black and white police cruiser, complete with flashing lights.

The Sheet Metal and Electrical shop students spend three months creating and wiring thirty holiday candles. According to a school news release, the candles were equipped with energy efficient LED light bulbs that use 75% less energy than traditional lamps.
