Fall Season Wrapping up for Mustangs

Medford Mustangs

It’s been a successful fall season for the Mustangs, with nearly every team seeing post-season action in the state tournaments.

Though the golf, volleyball, and girls and boys’ soccer teams have been knocked out of state competition, each team performed well during the fall season.

The boys’ soccer team finished at the top of the Greater Boston League with an 8-4-4 record, and the girls, led by former boys’ coach George Scarpelli, finished second in the league at 9-5-2. Tri-captain Emma MacNamee led the league in scoring, with 22 goals and 7 assists, for a total of 29 points.

Three teams are still going strong for the fall- cross-country, football, and cheering.

After capturing the Greater Boston League crown, the varsity cheering team continues its dominance and will compete in a regional competition at Woburn High School on November 11.

The football team, which has had a tough season, heads into tonight’s home game against Arlington with a 2-7 record.

The boys and girls’ cross-country teams will compete in the Eastern Massachusetts Divisional Championships at Franklin Park on Saturday. The teams hope to make a strong showing to qualify for the following weekend’s all-state meet. Junior Phil Galebach, one of the state’s top runners, is expected to lead the pack.

Both teams performed well in the Greater Boston League, with the boys finishing 5-1 and the girls finishing 4-2, good enough for second and third in the league, respectively.
