New Veterans’ Memorials Ready for Sunday Dedication

Three new memorials honoring veterans from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars are ready for their close-up.
The finishing touches have been put into place, and with beautiful fall weather expected, Sunday’s dedication ceremony is sure to be, in the words of Mayor Michael McGlynn, “Washington-esque.”
The event begins promptly at noon at Medford High School, 489 Winthrop Street, followed by a barbecue. Stop by early to hear patriotic tunes from “Singing Trooper” Dan Clark and to check out a Blackhawk helicopter that’s making a special cameo just for the dedication.
Above, the two new memorials honoring Medford residents that served in the Vietnam War and World War II vets that live in Medford but did not enlist from the city during the war. The Vietnam Memorial bears 2,601 names and the WWII Memorial has 303 names.
Above, the new Korean War veterans’ memorial bears the names of some 3,100 Medford citizens who served during the war.
