Find out about a renovated 2-family home on West Street available in an upcoming affordable housing lottery Thursday night at 7:30PM at City Hall.  The deadline to apply for the lottery is Friday, October 12.

Medford establishes Affordable Housing Task Force

Affordable Housing Specialist Erica Schwarz said the city has established an Affordable Housing Task Force with the mission of serving as an advisory group in creating more affordable housing in the city. 

The Task Force includes public officials, and local reps from businesses, real estate, Tufts University, and non-profit and social service agencies.  Members of the Task Force include realtor Cindy Dell’Isola, Pastor Tony Jarek-Glidden, Medford Family Network Director Marie Cassidy, Peter Grava of Grava Chrsyler Jeep, Medford Family Life Manager Tebogo Makhene-Goyau, Medford Community Housing Board member Cheryl Middleton, Tufts affordable housing policy lecturer Roberta Rubin, and Medford Housing Authority Director John Greco. 

Schwarz said the group so far has looked at several programs and policies in an effort to determine what could work for Medford.

Inclusionary Zoning Proposal Under Review

The city is considering creating an inclusionary zoning ordinance to increase affordable housing Medford.  The ordinance would go further in requiring developers to create more affordable units in their residential projects.  The city has hired Judi Barrett of Community Opportunities Group to craft the proposal and the Mayor will likely bring it before the City Council for consideration sometime next year.  Schwarz says residents will have the opportunity to comment on the plan during several public hearings.
