Vets’ Office Seeks Items to Send to Troops

– Allison Goldsberry

Medford’s Veteran Services Office is looking for items to send to Medford’s men and women serving in the armed forces, but they have yet to receive donations and the August 8 deadline is fast approaching.

Like last year, “Operation Medford Cares” is looking for items that aren’t readily available for troops and that remind them of home, including everything from letters of encouragement to toiletries to DVD’s to candy to Kool Aid.

According to Senior Clerk Marlene Aborn, last year’s donations allowed them to send eighteen care packages to nine service men and women.  They hope to at least match that this year.

Families are encouraged to contact the office with addresses of loved ones serving overseas because the Defense Department does not provide that information.
