Street Corners Dedicated Tonight to Honor WWII Vets

Tonight the city will dedicate two different street corners in honor of two families that arguably gave more than their fair share during WWII, the Fortunatos and the Santoros.  Each of the seven Fortunato brothers and eight Santoro brothers went to war and every single one of them, thankfully, returned.

At 5:30PM the corner of Stanley and College Avenues will be named for the Fortunato brothers.  Members of the Fortunato family will be present, including the grandson and son of Joseph Fortunato, Attorney Paul Fortunato, who will make remarks on behalf of the family.

At 7PM the corner of Wheeler Avenue and Bow Street will be dedicated to the Santoro brothers.  Eugene Santoro, son of Joseph Santoro, will speak on behalf of the family and Andrew and Matthew Scott, the great-grand children of Charles Santoro, and Luigi, Domenic, and Arianna DeSisto, the great-grand children of Lena Santoro Accola, will be present.

Catch the exciting war stories of the Fortunatos and Santoros on Channel 15 with Tom Convery, part of a major oral history project sponsored by the Medford Historical Society.
