City gets $1 Million for New Parking Garage

– Allison Goldsberry

Lt. Governor Tim Murray was in town today to announce a $1 million grant to go toward building a new parking garage on Governors Ave.  The garage will have 250 spaces and will be built on the spot of the former garage.  According to Mayor Michael McGlynn, there will be a fee for parking to help pay for the building and maintenance costs of the garage.

The city was awarded the money as part of an economic stimulus package aimed at improving public infrastructure to boost local economies.

According to the Lt. Governor, the construction of the garage will help Medford Square businesses expand and will create 74 jobs over the next two years.

“Job number one of the Patrick/Murray administration is to create 100,000 jobs over the next three and a half years and I think we’re off to a strong start,” said Lt. Gov. Murray.

McGlynn said a new garage was essential in that location to help spur revitalization of the Square.
